Early Careers Technical Workshop
May 29 @ 8:00 am - May 30 @ 5:00 pm
FreeIn-Paddock Agronomy Basics – the 101 on providing integrated agronomy advice
This workshop and field walk is targeted at anyone working in the area of agronomy and crop production who is in the early stages of their career in agriculture. You will be provided with valuable tools and technical knowledge as well as the opportunity to broaden your network of researchers, extension officers and agronomic peers.
“When or should I sow a crop?” and “Which crop to choose?” are fundamental decisions in the farming system that drive short and long-term impacts on profitability and sustainability. However, a range of factors play a part in these decisions and there are often trade-offs or situation specific circumstances that may favour one crop over another.
Join CCA and the Queensland Dept Primary Industries and CSIRO Farming Systems Team as they take you through a decision framework and build your knowledge along the way, that will help you evaluate the risk and implications of different crop choice options to quantify a crop’s risk profile against several parameters including soil water and nitrogen, disease inoculum levels and weed populations.
Presenters:
Janye Gentry – Science Leader Farming Systems Innovation DPI, Toowoomba QLD
Dr Lindsay Bell – Principal Research Scientist CSIRO, Toowoomba QLD
An evening Networking Meetup at the end of the first day is included as part of the Workshop. This networking function enables young agronomists to mingle with researchers and extension staff, industry representatives and other CCA members in a relaxed social setting over drinks and a light dinner.
This event is part of the Early Career Ag project funded by GRDC and CRDC, and is supported by QDPI and CSIRO.
